In 2006, Benoit discovers the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan and starts a long project documenting the landscapes and people of the valley of Hunza nestled among some of the Earth’s highest mountains using medium and large format film cameras. Passionate about high mountains, he goes back regularly to Pakistan over time to complete his project but also ventures in the Alps in the Mont Blanc region to train and add images to his mountain photography projects.
Inspired by predecessors who used this medium, Benoit has found in slow photography and mountain trekking/climbing the perfect combination that allows him to experience the mountains to the fullest.
In this session, Benoit will take you on a journey through the mountains of Pakistan, at the borders of Afghanistan and China, and will tell you why he has chosen slow photography, how it rekindled his interest in photography and the challenges of shooting with this medium in this kind of environment today.
